Thursday, Sep. 29th

In order for Swimming to be a success we are still requiring more volunteers to help us out. Thank you to everyone who has come in to school get the volunteer clearance started, I am hoping these clearances will come through in time. If any cleared volunteers are able to volunteer for other classes it would be appreciated. Please check out the Sign up Genius link to sign up.

Reminder tomorrow there is no school because it is Orange Shirt Day (Truth and Reconciliation).  

We read the story "Shi-Shi-Etko." This story is about Shi-Ski-Etko, about an Indigenous girl before she went to residential school, and her memory bag that she made. We drew our memory bags and we are writing about why we chose some items to put inside our bags. 

In science, we put a magnet under a piece of paper and spread some iron filing on top of the paper to reveal its magnetic field. 

In art we will be using paint of primary colors and mixing it to make secondary colors. This time, we will not be using paintbrushes, but magnets instead!

In math we practice some patterns using numbers.

In Spanish we are reviewing how to make and read syllabels in Spanish and learning vocabulary about parts of the body.

Tuesday, Sept. 27th

On Monday, we did our Terry Fox run. 


In math we made a graph to show what pet we would like the most. We are also working on patterns.






In English, we are practicing 'Word Work' while we learn about the long "a" sound.

In social studies we are learning that maps can have a legend and symbols in it.


We are learning about digital citizenship and ways we can be respectful and responsible when using technology at school.


In Physical Education class, we are doing cooperative games and we played 'pato, pato, ganzo.'

Tuesday, Sept. 20th

 This week, students started taking turns feeding Francisco and Sebastian every morning.

In Math, we started learning about place value using base ten blocks. We are also practicing for our math centers. Today we did "matemática solo" = math by yourself.

In English class, we started learning about blends - begnning sounds (two or more letters in the beginning of a word that make their own sound).

We started learning about Terry Fox and his marathon of hope.

In social studies, we are learning about maps, symbols, the compass rose and the legend of a map. We will be tracing the how far Terry Fox ran during the marathon of hope.

Hola!

In math this week we continue exploring different ways to draw a number line as we count by 2s, 5s, and 10s.

In Spanish we finished asking questions and writing complete sentences about our name, age, family, and favorite fruit, vegetable and colors.

On Monday, September 19, Dalhousie School will observe a moment of silence in to mark the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. All CBE School and workplaces will remain open as scheduled.

Please see the separate email that was sent regarding Parent Teacher Interviews, which will be held on Thursday, September 22 and Friday, September 23.   The conference booking application is currently experience technical issues and you may not be able to book at the initially indicated time.  We thank you for your patience.

Due to Parent Teacher Interviews, there is no school for all students on Friday, September 23.  It is a full day of school for all students, including Tuesday/Thursday Kindergarten students on Thursday, September 22.

Dalhousie students and families will be participating in the annual Terry Fox run. The run will be held at the school on September 26 at 1:45 PM. Donations can be made online to the Terry Fox foundation under Dalhousie School. Students are also encouraged to bring a Toonie for Terry on the day of the run. 

School photos will take place on September 27 for the Tuesday/Thursday Kindergarten group, Grades 1, 3 and 5. On September 28, the Monday/Wednesday Kindergarten group as well as Grades 2 and 4 will have their pictures taken. Please note that it will be the individual as well as the class photos. A retake date will be confirmed.

Our Apple Fundraiser is underway! Place your orders with the forms sent home by September 28. Cheques or e-transfers are accepted! 

Our Fall Harvest Fundraiser allows you to get some fresh produce.  Donations can also be made to the Foodbank! What a great opportunity to double up on helping out! 

The next Healthy Hunger fun lunches are Fat Burger and Mucho Burrito. Get your orders in by Friday, September 23 at midnight on healthyhunger.ca  All restaurants are up until the end of December so feel free to order for any of the weeks.

In math we started practicing "El Número del Día" (the number of the day), in which we are representing a number in different ways:


We started practicing Read to Someone.

In Spanish we are asking questions and giving answers about our favorite colors using complete sentences. 

We will be having a new student in our classroom soon. How exciting!

Friday, Sep. 9th


Hola!

This week in math, we have reviewed skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s in a hundred chart. Also, we are practicing ordering numbers (11, 21, 9, 17 : 9, 11, 17, 21).

We had our first assembly of the school year, reviewed audience expectations and got to see all teachers dance and perform for the students! It was so much fun!

Today, we all had the opportunity to have our pet fish 'Francisco' and pet snail 'Sebastian' at our tables for 5 minutes, while we were quietly doing some work. We saw Francisco going through its rock tunnel!

Terry Fox Donation sheets went home this week. Please donate online, there is a QR code on the donation sheet. We did an excellent job raising fund for this worthy cause last year and we want to continue to support Terry Fox organization.

Apple fundraiser sheet went home today. Order deadline is September  28th and pick-up date is October 11th.

In ELA we made a word bank with words that we will use to write about our summer vacation or our weekend.

 Hola!

We have had a great start to our new school year! We read the book "First Day Jitters" by Julie Danneberg. Most students felt FELIZ (happy)😊. Look at our graphing. 

In order to wrap up our first two days of school, we read the story "The Sharing Circle" by Theresa Larsen-Jonasson. We then did our first sharing circle in which we talked about something new we learned obout someone in our class.


In order to continue to know about each other, students are taking home a brown bag and some instructions stapled to it. Students can start bringing their items on Tuesday, Sep. 6th.
